What puts the "Green" in The Green Ark?
Our ultimate goal is to create a self-sustaining, green animal sanctuary in the New England area. We also are trying to raise money for our own earth-friendly transport vehicle to help cut our carbon footprint as we transport animals north. While we work toward these goals, here are some other ways we help the Earth:

DIY Cleaners
When cleaning crates, or even our own pups, The Green Ark makes every effort to use natural cleaning agents before harsh chemicals that can be destructive to the environment. One of our favorite bleach substitutes is a mix of very hot water, vinegar, and baking soda. Try it yourself! Keep these items on hand to mix you own cleaning solutions:

- Baking Soda
- White Vinegar
- Hydrogen peroxide
- Borax
- Essential oils, like tea tree oil, lavender oil, eucalyptus oil, or lemongrass oil
- Castile soap
- Fresh herbs, citrus, or citrus peels
- Olive or vegetable oil
- Water

Homemade Doggie Treats
Commercially produced dog treats may not be made with the green initiatives in mind. Mass transportation and production often mean the burning of fossil fuels which has negative repercussions for the environment. The Green Ark does it's best effort to create healthy, homemade doggie treats when possible. One of our favorite (and easiest) is dehydrated sweet potatoes. Simply buy a sweet potato (preferably from a local farmer) and pop it in the oven or food dehydrator.

Earth-Rated Poop Bags
Picking up after our pets is a must, but every year, millions of tiny little plastic bags containing dog excrement are sent to landfills or tossed on the side of the road. Sealed in plastic bags, the poop cannot breakdown naturally and becomes host to all kinds of hazardous, invisible germs. On top of that, the plastic will take years to breakdown! That is why The Green Ark strictly uses Earth Rated® PoopBags - made from recycled materials and biodegradable!

Recycled Paper Products
All of our collateral, including our business cards, brochures, and post cards are printed on recycled paper. Most of our contracts and adoption packets use recycled products too! Staying green is sometimes not be the most cost-effective solution when it comes to printing, but our commitment to the earth is a priority for The Green Ark.
